The story of the red cat

A small family kitchen that carried its following across the bay.

Wood-fired prosciutto pizza

Gatto Rosso — “the red cat” — is a small, family-run Italian trattoria on Bluff Road in bayside Black Rock. Run by owners from Northern Italy, the kitchen turns out wood-fired thin-base pizza, house-made pasta and risotto, and classic Italian mains and desserts, all prepared fresh in-house.

Diners come for the authenticity — “the most authentic Italian since Milano” — the warm family hospitality, and a tiramisù and gelato people remember. Cosy at around twenty seats and popular enough that regulars book ahead, Gatto Rosso carried its loyal following from an earlier Gardenvale home to Black Rock.
